The Background (Introduction)

I have been abusing alcohol for a long time. 20+ years. These latter 10 years I have been drinking at least 1/2 a bottle of vodka per night and more at weekends and days off.

Actually, no that’s not right. I’ve not been abusing alcohol. I’ve been abusing MY BODY with alcohol for a long time.

The whys and wherefores of this are not important. To be honest I don’t really know why. What I do know is that it has now stopped and by the time I post this blog I will be “100 Hours In” in my alcohol free rest of life.

Tomorrow I will tell how I have gotten to 5 days sober. That doesn’t sound like a big boast but to me it’s a great achievement. This will not be me preaching. Just how I did it. I’ve learned recently that there are many different perceptions of what we want our relationship with alcohol to be and many different routes to get to that place. This is my way. The way I did it. It might not be the way that suits anyone else but it might.

  1. That’s the start. I think in our family there is an obsessive gene. I drink more than I should, that’s for sure. I have huge respect for you, always have, always will, but this has just confirmed why.
